What is the adoption Program?

The Adoption Program is a way for families to add a quality young adult or adult Labrador to their family for very little cost. Many of these Labs played a role in Skylit’s breeding program and we have determined that they would truly thrive in a smaller (ie less dogs) family of their own now that their breeding role has finished.

WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM COST AND WHAT DO WE GET IN RETURN?

The current fee for the Adoption Program is $500. In return the family receives an excellent, health tested, trained Labrador and my continued support for the life of that Lab.

Who pays for the dog’s expenses?

The Adopting family covers all costs involved in adding the dog to their family.

We don’t live on the north island. Can we still Adopt a Skylit Lab?

Yes! Absolutely! Please beware however that transport costs from the north to south island for an adult Labrador can be dear. On the plus side however, unlike puppies, my adult Labs LOVE road trips!

Are Adoption Program Labs still breeding?

Labs in the Adoption Program are in the process of finishing or have already finished their role in my breeding program. All are spayed/neutered prior to joining their new families.

Why aren’t you keeping them?

I am in the process of changing how my program works and expect to have very few if any adult Labs for adoption in the future. My new program is based upon placing potential breeding dogs in Guardian homes as puppies so that they are raised by their forever families from 10 weeks onwards.

Ultimately it boils down to the more dogs you have, the less individual time you are able to devote to each individual dog. It is important to me that my dogs maintain a “normal” family lifestyle and do things that they would do with a “normal” family. In order to ensure that, I need to keep the number of “full time” dogs minimised.
